WEEK 12 (FYP2)

Title of Activity : Change to the new block diagram

Objective : To show the flow process of robot vacuum

Content and Analysis :

The block diagram of the vacuum robot in shows the system operates, what its inputs and outputs at various stages. It consists of Arduino microcontroller, ultrasonic distance sensor, motor drive,DC motor,LCD and vacuum. The arduino microcontroller, being the main part that controls the overall operation of the system. The ultrasonic distance sensor are used to measured distance from the walls and detect obstacles and bluetooth module (Slave) provides a wireless communication link between the arduino and android smartphone.Hence the LCD will display the number of distance between sensors from the wall. The motor drives(driver shield) allow arduino drive DC motor, controlling the speed and direction.

Conclusions:

For the conclusion on this week I have change to new block diagram and i can move to the next step to make this project successfully.

WEEK 11 (FYP2)

Title of Activity : Add Bluetooth features

Content and Analysis :

The HC-06 Bluetooth Module (Slave) provides a wireless communication link between the Arduino and any bluetooth capable device. It's ideal replacement for wired serial connection. It enables a circuit to communicate to another circuit through wireless connectivity. Sending and receiving of data can be achieved within a range of 10 meters. It has a standard 2-pin UART connection (Tx & Rx) which makes it easy to connect to arduino board. This module board has signal conditioning circuit (5V and 3.3V compatible) for easily connect the signal pins directly to Arduino boards. There is no need for a voltage divider or voltage switching circuitry.

Conclusions:

For the conclusion on this week I have add bluetooth features to my robot vacuum. With this bluetooth features i can used android phone to control robot vacuum.

WEEK 10 (FYP2)

Title of Activity : Put vacuum into robot base

Content and Analysis :

The main function of this robot is a vacuum . In this project, a mini vacuum cleaner that is available in the market had been used. There are several factors before choosing vacuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner must come in a small size and requires a battery power. So, this mini vacuum cleaner had been chosen because it fulfills the two requirements.

Below are the specifications for this type of vacuum cleaner

- Uses 3.0 Volts power.

- Small size and very light

- Very powerful in cleaning work for example remove dust, iron bits, glass or wooden scraps

WEEK 9 (FYP2)

Title of Activity : Testing a DC motor

Objective : To.test a DC motor with different speeds

Content and Analysis :

Testing the motor is a process where the motor is only connected to the motor driver shield. A 5V supply is also connected to the driver. There are two port located at the driver shield. Furthermore, the DC motors are tested with a program from Arduino with a different speed.

Conclusions :

- For the conclusion on this week, i have tested a dc motor and program a suitable speed for my robot vacuum.

WEEK 8 (FYP2)

Title of Activity : Build a robot chassis

Objective : To specified the actual size that needed for the prototype in this project.

Content and Analysis :

The prototype chassis that a startup platform for small size mobile robot. My robot base are going to have different material of chassis which made from wood. This type of wood is strong with very low density which makes it perfect for light weight builds. The mechanical structure is the whole chassis of the robot. The structure will form the base where all the components such as the motor, controller and batteries are mounted. Some of the important features that the mechanical structure must possess are :

- Lightweight

Conclusions :

- For the conclusion on this week, i have build a chassis for robot vacuum and mounted all component such as motor, controller, vacuum and batteries.

WEEK 7 (FYP2)

Title of Activity : Wheels

Objective :Study about wheels

Content and analysis :

Differential wheeled robot is a mobile robot whose movement is based on two separately driven wheels placed on either side of the robot body. It can thus change its direction by varying the relative rate of rotation of its wheels.

Conclusions :

For the conclusion on this week, i have study and test the movement of the wheels. My objectives for this week are successfully fulfilled.

Friday, 13 March 2015

WEEK 6 (FYP2)

Title of Activity : DC motor and bracket

Objective : Study about DC motor and bracket

Content and analysis :

DC motor

A DC motor is a mechanically commutated electric motor powered from direct current (DC). The stator is stationary in space by definition and therefore the current in the rotor is switched by the commutator to also be stationary in space. This is how the relative angle between the stator and rotor magnetic flux is maintained near 90 degrees, which generates the maximum torque. DC motors have a rotating armature winding but non-rotating armature magnetic field and a static field winding or permanent magnet. The speed of a DC motor can be controlled by changing the voltage applied to the armature or by changing the field current.

Bracket

This compact bracket enables convenient mounting of popular, SPG10 Series metal gear motors. The plastic bracket encloses the otherwise exposed gears, and the mounting tabs capture the nuts for easy installation. This version has mounting tabs that allow for use with the wheel 42×19 mm.

Conclusions :

For the conclusion on this week, i have study about gear dc motor. My objectives for this week are successfully fulfilled.

Friday, 6 March 2015

WEEK 5 (FYP2)

Title of Activity : Motor Driver Shield

Objective : Study about motor driver shield

Content and analysis :

This motor shield allows Arduino to drive two channel DC motors. It uses a L298N chip which deliveries output current up to 2A each channel. The speed control is achieved through conventional PWM which can be obtained from Arduino PWM output Pin 5 and 6. The enable/disable function of the motor control is signal led by Arduino Digital Pin 4 and 7. The Motor shield can be powered directly from Arduino or from external power source. It is strongly encouraged to use external power supply to power the motor shield.

Conclusions :

For the conclusion on this week, i have study about motor driver shield and connect the motor driver with arduino UNO board. My objectives for this week are successfully fulfilled.

WEEK 4 (FYP2)

Title of Activity : Arduino UNO board with a range sensor and lcd

Objective : To testing arduino UNO board with a range sensor display

Content/ Procedure :

1. I2C LCD 1602 for Arduino(Blue Light) x1

2. Ultrasonic Ranging Module HC – SR04 x1

3. Arduino Uno Rev3-Main Board x1

Result and analysis :

Before testing arduino board, I have to write the code in sketch by using Arduino Software IDE,compiling it and upload the sketch to arduino board. As soon as the sketch is uploaded, the arduino board will start to run.The figure below show the running arduino UNO board with a range sensor display by using an LCD 16x2 character display to measure the distance in cm.

Conclusions :

For the conclusion on this week, i have test my arduino UNO board with a range sensor display. My objectives for this week are successfully fulfilled.

WEEK 3 (FYP2)

Title of Activity : Buy LCD components

Objective :To buy LCD components for the project

Content/ Procedure :

1.  I2C LCD 1602 for Arduino(Blue Light)  x1

For this project i used this type LCD directly with Arduino because this project may be out of pins using a normal LCD shield. With this I2C interface LCD module, there only need 2 lines (I2C) to display information. The I2C bus uses two wires: serial data (SDA) and serial clock (SCL). SCL is the clock line. It is used to synchronize all data transfers over the I2C bus. SDA is the data line. This unit connects with 4 wires including Vcc and Gnd.

Result and analysis :

Conclusions :

For the conclusion on this week, i have purchased some main component needed for my project. My objectives for this week are successfully fulfilled.
